“Is there anything I can help with?”

An avid volunteer, this simple question is always on Lorna’s mind, continually prompting her to show empathy and care towards other commuters. Lorna's caring spirit can be seen through her actions during her everyday commutes.

One particular encounter stood out vividly in Lorna's memory. Having spotted a visually impaired commuter in need, she approached him, introduced herself, and offered assistance. After he explained that he was lost, she helped him to his intended location.

Lorna even accompanied the man to complete his errand before guiding him to the right bus stop to ensure he got on the correct bus. When his bus arrived, Lorna alerted the bus driver to keep a lookout for the visually impaired commuter, and where he wanted to alight.

Lorna’s vigilance and willingness to reach out to and support a fellow commuter made a significant difference.

Lorna shared why she looks out for others on public transport and took the course to become a Caring Commuter Champion.

She wanted to set a positive example for her son and to cultivate the value of helping others. She hopes that her son will be inspired by her actions, to also give back to the community.

Lorna’s other motivation stems from her belief that by helping others now, caring commuters will also step forward to help her when she is in need in the future.

Indeed, everyone can play their part and inspire other commuters to show care during their commute. In this way, we can all foster a more caring commuting culture.
