The photography exhibition, themed “A Caring Commuting Culture, An Inclusive Public Transport for All”, is organised by the Photographic Society of Singapore (PSS), in partnership with the Public Transport Council, to showcase the efforts by the public agencies, public transport operators and commuters in making Singapore’s public transport more inclusive. The exhibition features 71 photographs taken by lead photographer, Mr William Chua, and 11 photographers from PSS. The photographs tell the story of how everyone plays a part in fostering a more caring commuting culture – be it through ground-up initiatives, co-creation projects or through community involvement events. Fujifilm is participating as PSS’ sponsor for the project.

2     Mr Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment & Ministry of Transport, opened the exhibition on 25 June 2024. Speaking at the event, Mr Baey said “commuting is not simply about reaching our destination; it also involves navigating and sharing common spaces as a community. I hope the stories told through this exhibition can inspire and contribute to a more caring commuting culture where commuters offer a hand to those in need”.

3     The exhibition at the Prinsep Gallery, Selegie Arts Centre is open to the public from 26 June 2024 to 7 July 2024 from 1 to 6pm. Admission is free.

About the photographers

4     Mr William Chua, the lead photographer of the project, is a self-employed photographer who specialises in weddings, portraits, travel/landscape and wildlife photography. He is an ambassador for Fujifilm since 2014 and has been recognised with numerous international awards and was also inducted into the Master Photography Association in London since 2009.

5     For the exhibition, PSS organised a Masterclass workshop led by Mr Chua, which saw the participation of 11 photographers from the PSS. The photographers went through a thorough review and photo selection session with Mr Chua after each photoshoot. For more details on the photographers’ profiles, please click here

Working with Public Transport Operators

6     PTC partnered the public transport operators, Go-Ahead Singapore, SBS Transit, SMRT and Tower Transit Singapore for this project. The operators opened their caring commuter events and programmes to the photographers, giving them the opportunity capture memorable moments for the exhibition. All the photoshoots were at events held in April 2024. Please see the table below for information of the photoshoot events:
